Teacher Education

Teacher Education should include how English language metaphors influence learning. If you use metaphors often to describe information and concepts, it is likely your choice of metaphors impacts your students perception and learning. By recognizing some limitations in our use of metaphors, teachers can see how using positive metaphors effectively can help create positive classroom environments and a positive learning experiences for students.

It is important for every teacher to have a personal philosophy of teacher education based on a set of values and principles. It should reflect the person’s ideologies and philosophies of teaching and the overall development of the children. It becomes a crucial element in guiding the children towards a successful life.

Companies across the country have long since allowed employees to work four ten hour days a week versus five eight hour days. Moves such as these were incorporated in an effort to help employees reduce fuel costs and also as a way for employers to prevent layoffs. This practice proved successful; so much so, schools across the country are now opting for four day school weeks.

In this article, I offer descriptions of what I consider distinguishing attributes of the "Teacher-Dictator" (aka Traditional "Old School" Style Teacher) as compared to those of the Modern Teacher who I like to call a "Teacher-Educator". I explain why (among other things) a person involved in teaching in today's world needs to be challenged, to exhibit MORE "Teacher-Educator" traits. This "style" has greater potential to EMPOWER learners to derive life-long benefits from their formal learning experiences.
